Mike Dunn – Head Coach
Coach Dunn comes to Del City High School after serving the last 11 years in a multitude of coordinating roles under the Friday night lights of Texas. Coach Dunn has spent the past three years at Brewer High School as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. During his time at Brewer, the team has made history by making back to back appearances in the 5A Texas State Playoffs for the first time since the 97-98 seasons. Before his time at Brewer, Coach Dunn served as the Defensive Coordinator at Rockdale High School, Elgin High School, and Los Fresnos High School. During those stops, Coach Dunn was part of 7 different playoff appearances, with a state semi-finalist team, regional championships, area championships, and several bi-district championships. Coach Dunn spent his first 4 years in Texas under the tutelage of legendary coach Mike Lebby at Saginaw High School. At Saginaw, Dunn coached the offensive line, and was given his first coordinator appointment as Special Teams Coordinator for the 2008-2009 seasons. Opening in 2006 with freshmen and sophomores only, Saginaw High School made its first playoff appearance in school history in just its 4th year of existence.
Before his time in Texas, Coach Dunn spent three years coaching for Mid-Del Public Schools at Carl Albert and was the defensive line coach on the 2004 state championship team. Dunn also graduated from Carl Albert and was a member of the 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 football state championship teams. Dunn was also a member of the 2001 Daily Oklahoman All-State Football team and was named as a National Football Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete after his senior year season. He was also named to the 2002 Oil Bowl Oklahoma Team and competed against the best high school players in Texas at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Coach Dunn is extremely excited to be back home in Mid-Del as the leader of Del City Eagle Athletics. His family has been a fixture in the school district for the past 35 years, and he truly feels honored to be back in a leadership role in a school district he cherishes. Coach Dunn had this to say about the opportunity to lead the Eagle Athletic Program, “I’m both humbled and honored to have the opportunity to serve Del City High School as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach. I want to thank Del City principal, Mrs. Gina Hill, and others who have entrusted me with this great responsibility of leading our athletic department. Together, we will continue to provide great opportunities for our outstanding students. We look forward to honoring the great traditions of Del City Athletics, while creating new traditions of our own. Eagle Pride!”
Robert Jones – Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator
Robert Jones is entering his first season with the Eagles, and his 12th season coaching high school football. Coach Jones will serve as the team’s Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Coach Jones has spent 10 of his 12 years in coaching in the state of Texas. Prior to his move to Oklahoma, he served various coaching roles at Brewer High School during his 3 year tenure including Secondary, Head Strength & Conditioning, Head Boys Track, and Co-Defensive Coordinator.
Jones has previously coached Running Backs and Secondary at Saginaw High School, Co-Defensive Coordinator and Secondary at Los Fresnos High School, Secondary at College Station High School, and Co-Defensive Coordinator, Secondary, and Head Boys Track at Rockdale High School. Coach Jones started his coaching career at Carl Albert High School coaching the Secondary for two years, capturing a State Championship in 2006.
Coach Jones started his collegiate career at Northeastern A&M Junior College where he was a Junior College All American. Jones went on to finish his collegiate playing career at Oklahoma State University where he was a starting cornerback for 2 years and a member of the Academic All-Big 12 and All-Big 12 football teams. Jones attended Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, where he highlighted his athletic career with two football State Championships and three State Championships in Track & Field.
Coach Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in General Education from Oklahoma State University in 2005.
Coach Jones is happy to be back home with his family and supportive community and is looking forward to a successful season at Del City High School.
Jason Madonna – Offensive Coordinator
Jason Madonna will be starting his 10th year teaching/coaching and is coming to Del City High School from Bethel High School where he served as the Head Football Coach for the last 4 years. Coach Madonna is coming back to Mid-Del, as he spent his first 5 years in coaching and teaching at Midwest City High School during a time when the Bombers were known as the “Best of the West” in 6A football. Coach Madonna has also coached baseball, track, and powerlifting during his career and brings knowledge of all sports to the Del City coaching staff. Coach Madonna was a Carl Albert Titan and a Bethel College Thresher as a player. During his time at Carl Albert, Jason was part of two state championship football teams. Coach Madonna is extremely proud to be back in Mid-Del, the school district he calls home. He will be cheered on by his wife Trish (teacher at Jarman Middle School), daughter Ava and parents Sal and Lina Madonna.
Chase Rodgers – Quarterback Coach
Coach Rodgers will be coming back for his second year at Del City High School and will be coaching the quarterbacks this season. Chase learned a large amount of football in his first year of coaching and looks forward to learning the game even greater. His goal is to be an offensive coordinator one day and he feels this will be even more attainable under the tutelage of Coach Madonna. Born and raised in Chickasha, Rodgers lettered in both football and basketball during his time at Chickasha High School. A 2011 graduate, Rodgers set records for most passing yards in a career in football, and most points scored in a career in basketball. Chase went on to play college football at the University of Central Oklahoma and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. Rodgers feels like his biggest asset to the program is his passion to mentor kids and wouldn’t want to be anywhere else other than Del City High School. He is supported by his wife, Taylor, this fall.
Jace Johnson – Wide Recievers Coach
Jace Johnson is entering his 6th year as an educator and coach. He attended Bethel High School then Southwestern Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship. His stops have included Cordell High School, Bethel High School and Alvord High School (Tx). While at Bethel he lead the Lady Wildcats to the 3A State Basketball Tournament during the 2014-2015 season. His parents are Jerry and Melinda Johnson.
Matt Looney – Offensive Line Coach
Matt Looney will be starting his 12th year coaching high school football and is coming to Del City High School from Little Axe High School where he served as the Head Football Coach for the last 2 years. Before his time as head coach, Coach Looney served Little Axe as the Defensive Coordinator for 3 seasons. Before his time in Little Axe, Looney had stops in both Jones High School and Choctaw High School. Coach Looney has coached track, baseball, and basketball on the junior high and high school level. He will be teaching at Kerr Middle School this year and helping us vertically align at the high school. He completed his undergraduate from Oklahoma Baptist University and received his Master’s in Sports Administration from East Central University. He will be cheered on by his wife Chrisanna, daughter Zoe, and son Jaxon in the fall.
John Emerson – Defensive Line Coach
John Emerson is beginning his second year as a DC Eagle and his 37th year as a high school football coach. He is a graduate of Cordell High School and The University of Oklahoma where he played football. John has coached in several 4A, 5A, and 6A programs in Oklahoma and Texas. He and his lovely wife Carol have been married for 39 years and have two children and four grandchildren.
Brian Peters – Linebackers Coach
Brian Peters will be starting his 11th year teaching and coaching and is coming to Del City High School from Alcott Middle School in Norman, Oklahoma where he served as the Athletic Coordinator for the past semester. Before his time in Norman, Coach Peters has had extremely successful stints at Wynnewood High School (State Runner-Up in 2012, State Semi-Finalist in 2014) and McAlester High School where they won 20 games in back to back seasons (State Quarter-Finalists in 2009-2010 seasons). Coach Peters graduated high school from Pauls Valley High School in 2001, there he received All-State honors in both football and track. Peters was also part of a state championship track team at Pauls Valley during the 2001 season. From there, Coach Peters went on to have a successful football career at East Central University. This fall, Brian will be cheered on by his wife Brenna and daughter Brilee. They call themselves BP3!
